SUMMARY:SOLD OUT Shrouded In Light: Naturalistic Planting Inspired by Wild Shrublands
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT\nAdvance Registration Recommended \nJoin us as guest speakers Kevin Philip Williams and Michael Guidi of the Denver Botanic Gardens and authors of Shrouded in Light: Naturalistic Planting Inspired by Wild Shrublands (Filbert Press\, 2024) as they invite you to work\, live and play with shrubs. They will guide the session to explore a glorious spectrum of wild shrublands\, and discover the philosophies and design strategies behind translating these magnificent plant communities into your home garden. \nShrublands exist all around us\, thriving in almost any environmental condition\, from the desiccating sunshine of the endless sagebrush steppe to the deep\, private shade of moist forests. These diverse and inspiring ecosystems serve as perfect models for our gardens. Beyond their inherent beauty\, they provide nurturing habitats\, demonstrate resilience in the face of a changing climate\, and offer a challenge to conventional garden-making through their intense aesthetics and obscured intentions. \nDate: Thursday February 12th \nTime: 10:00am – 12:30pm \nLocation: Udall Conference Room\, 725 Camino Lejo Santa Fe 87505 (Second floor) \nCost: \n\nMember $28\nNo-Yet-Member $35\n\n  \n10:00am -11:15am: Presentation by Kevin and Michael (Udall\, second floor) \n11:15am – 11:30am: Everyone will walk or drive to the Garden (From Udall to main Garden entrance) \n11:30am – 12:30pm: Kevin and Michael will lead a guided walk through the Botanical Garden. (715 Camino Lejo) \n  \nAbout the presenters: \nKevin Philip Williams is a naturalistic gardener who collaborates with active and passive materials to create dynamic and challenging worlds. His unique style combines bioregional plant palettes\, a hardcore punk ethos\, and post-human aesthetics to craft wild and captivating spaces. Kevin’s extensive work with Denver Botanic Gardens has led to the creation of celebrated public gardens throughout the city. Kevin was a Gardener on The High Line in Manhattan and studied as a Horticulture Intern at Brooklyn Botanic Garden. He holds a MS degree in Public Horticulture from the Longwood Graduate Program at the University of Delaware and a BA degree in The History and Philosophy of Science from Bard College. \n \nMichael Guidi is an ecologist and horticulture researcher who is passionate about naturalistic plantings that embody the flexibility and resiliency of wild systems. His work draws inspiration from liminal urban spaces and wild areas alike. Preferring common and weedy plants to the rare and precious\, Michael is a proponent of dynamic\, self-sustaining gardens and green infrastructure as alternatives to static high-maintenance landscaping. His research links ecological theory with horticultural techniques and designs to broaden the definition of gardens and gardening. Michael worked as a field biologist before joining the Denver Botanic Gardens horticulture department. SUMMARY:SOLD OUT - Garden Conversations with Linda Churchill and Noah Gapsis
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT\nWinter Wonders: Exploring the Garden’s Quiet Season \nStart your morning with breakfast at Museum Hill Café and hear from our Director of Horticulture\, Linda Churchill\, and Noah Gapsis\, Horticulturalist\, who will share tips for enjoying and caring for your winter garden. Learn about seasonal maintenance\, pruning\, watering\, and ways to keep your outdoor spaces vibrant during the off-season. Afterward\, take a guided walk through the Santa Fe Botanical Garden to see its winter beauty—bark\, grasses\, and stonework in sharp relief—and get a preview of horticulture programs coming in 2026. Reservations required; garden admission included. \nLocation: Weldon’s Museum Hill Café\, 710 Camino Lejo\, Santa Fe \nTime: \n\n8:30am-9:30am\, Breakfast\n9:30am – 10:30am \, Garden Tour\n\nTickets: Members: $32.00 Members; Not-Members-Yet: $40.00 \nLinda Churchill learned to love nature from her earliest childhood\, gardening and exploring the world through regular family “nature walks” and other outings. From her Midwestern roots\, travels took her to Florida State for university degrees in English and Italian\, then to Italy\, California\, and other places before she discovered New Mexico was where she was meant to be all along. After working for prestigious Santa Fe landscaping firms for several years\, Linda and two colleagues formed their own design-build landscape partnership\, where she developed skills in many areas of garden design and maintenance. Linda has been active with the Santa Fe Botanical Garden as a board member\, docent\, volunteer\, or horticultural advisor since 1998.  Her position now as Director of Horticulture keeps her happily engaged with the plants\, volunteers\, and staff of the Garden. She believes in creating gardens where people of all ages can connect to the awe and beauty of the natural world now and in the future. \nNoah Gapsis was born and raised in Santa Fe. The landscape of northern New Mexico is in his bones\, but he found horticulture by way of California. Galvanized by the boundless diversity of the CA floristic province and the temperate growing climate of the Bay Area\, he fell in love with plants in all their innumerable forms. After an apprenticeship at San Francisco Botanical Garden\, an Associates in Landscape Horticulture from Merritt College\, years creating and maintaining residential gardens\, and working as horticulturist of the South American collection at UC Botanical Garden at Berkeley\, Noah moved back home. Since his return he has been farming\, building gardens\, and now is a horticulturist at the Santa Fe Botanical Garden. \n\nCancellations and refunds: If you need to cancel\, please contact us at 505.471.9103.
