It includes 19 gentle flowing movements and a pose. TCC is not a martial art and is completely non-violent. It is easy to learn and a full practice takes about 40 minutes. DESCRIPTION:Advance registration required. \nJoin Kaitlin Haase for a presentation on the conservation efforts to preserve the diverse butterflies of New Mexico. Learn about recent research on rare species and pesticide exposure\, habitat improvement projects\, and how you can support butterfly conservation through community science and providing habitat for pollinators in your garden. After the presentation\, Kaitlin will lead attendees on a walk through the garden highlighting host plant species\, nectar-rich blooms\, and overwintering shelter essential to support all life stages of insect pollinators. Hopefully there will be butterflies active in the garden for us to practice some common species identification! \nAbout Kaitlin: \nAs the Southwest Pollinator Conservation Specialist\, Kaitlin works to create climate-resilient\, connected pollinator habitat across New Mexico. She collaborates with and educates public and private land managers in New Mexico and the desert Southwest on pollinator-friendly practices for landscaping\, gardening\, and open space restoration. SUMMARY:New Mexico insects: Natural diversity and conservation needs with Dr. David Lightfoot
DESCRIPTION:New Mexico supports a high diversity of insects and other arthropods. Global insect declines due to human activities have been documented world-wide\, and now here in New Mexico. This presentation provides information on the current status of New Mexico insects\, on the ecological characteristics of our insects\, on reasons for our high diversity of insects\, along with examples of recent human caused declines and efforts to conserve New Mexico insects threatened with extinction. \nDr. Lightfoot is an Assistant Research Professor and the Senior Collection Manager for the Division of Arthropods\, Museum of Southwestern Biology\, at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque\, NM. He has been conducting research on insect taxonomy\, ecology and conservation across New Mexico for over 40-years. He conducts research on insect evolution and classification\, insect ecology\, conservation and ecological restoration. Dr. Lightfoot received his Bachelor of Science degree in entomology from Oregon State University in 1981\, and his Master of Science\, and PhD. Degrees from New Mexico State University in 1985 and 1988.
