SUMMARY:The Light Eaters: An Evening With Zoë Schlanger
DESCRIPTION:Join us for The Light Eaters: An Evening with Zoë Schlanger\, part of the Santa Fe Botanical Garden’s Science and Conservation Speaker Series\, held at the New Mexico Museum of Art’s St. Francis Auditorium. Blending cutting-edge science with compelling storytelling\, Schlanger—author of The Light Eaters: How the Unseen World of Plant Intelligence Offers a New Understanding of Life on Earth—explores the emerging field of plant intelligence and what it reveals about how plants sense\, communicate\, and interact with the living world around them. This special evening invites audiences to consider the profound relationships between plants\, pollinators\, and ecosystems\, and how these connections shape the future of conservation. Following her presentation\, Schlanger will be joined for a moderated conversation and Q&A by Katie Mast\, a Santa Fe–based science writer and communications manager at the Santa Fe Institute. \nGeneral admission tickets include entry to the 6:00pm lecture in the auditorium\, followed by a book signing in partnership with Collected Works Bookstore. \nVIP Experience \nA limited number of VIP tickets are available for an exclusive 5:00pm courtyard reception with the author\, featuring wine and light hors d’oeuvres. \nMember Presale: April 15; Public Sale: April 27\, 2026 \nDate and Time \n\nDate: June 16\, 2026\nTime:\n\n5:00 – 6:00pm: VIP Reception\n6:00 – 7:00pm: Presentation and Q&A\n7:00pm: Author Book Signing\n\n\n\nLocation \nNew Mexico Museum of Art\, St. Francis Auditorium\, 107 W Palace Ave\, Santa Fe\, NM 87501 \nPricing \n\nSFBG Member $25.00\nNot-Yet-Member $35.00\nVIP SFBG Member $75.00\nVIP Not-Yet-Member $100.00\n\n**SFBG Members** You must sign in to take advantage of the presale. SUMMARY:New Mexico insects: Natural diversity and conservation needs with Dr. David Lightfoot
DESCRIPTION:New Mexico supports a high diversity of insects and other arthropods. Global insect declines due to human activities have been documented world-wide\, and now here in New Mexico. This presentation provides information on the current status of New Mexico insects\, on the ecological characteristics of our insects\, on reasons for our high diversity of insects\, along with examples of recent human caused declines and efforts to conserve New Mexico insects threatened with extinction. \nDr. Lightfoot is an Assistant Research Professor and the Senior Collection Manager for the Division of Arthropods\, Museum of Southwestern Biology\, at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque\, NM. He has been conducting research on insect taxonomy\, ecology and conservation across New Mexico for over 40-years. He conducts research on insect evolution and classification\, insect ecology\, conservation and ecological restoration. Dr. Lightfoot received his Bachelor of Science degree in entomology from Oregon State University in 1981\, and his Master of Science\, and PhD. Degrees from New Mexico State University in 1985 and 1988.
