SUMMARY:New Mexico insects: Natural diversity and conservation needs with Dr. David Lightfoot
DESCRIPTION:New Mexico supports a high diversity of insects and other arthropods. Global insect declines due to human activities have been documented world-wide\, and now here in New Mexico. This presentation provides information on the current status of New Mexico insects\, on the ecological characteristics of our insects\, on reasons for our high diversity of insects\, along with examples of recent human caused declines and efforts to conserve New Mexico insects threatened with extinction. \nDr. Lightfoot is an Assistant Research Professor and the Senior Collection Manager for the Division of Arthropods\, Museum of Southwestern Biology\, at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque\, NM. He has been conducting research on insect taxonomy\, ecology and conservation across New Mexico for over 40-years. He conducts research on insect evolution and classification\, insect ecology\, conservation and ecological restoration. Dr. Lightfoot received his Bachelor of Science degree in entomology from Oregon State University in 1981\, and his Master of Science\, and PhD.
